A guide to wearing Highland Dress

Kilt Worn with pleats to back and should sit up on body. Bottom of kilt should sit top to middle of the knee cap.
Kilt Pin Pinned through front apron of kilt only (kilt cloth may tear if pinned through both layers).
Sporran Centre to front apron of kilt with chainstrap fed through loops at back of kilt. Position 3 - 4 finger widths below jackets.
Hose Position approximately 2 - 3 finger widths below bottom of kneecap
Sgian Dubh Translation of Sgian Dubh is "hidden". Only the top 1 inch should be shown above hose. If right handed, wear down right sock, if left then wear down left sock.
Flashes Worn to the outside of the leg bringing sock turnover down covering half of the flash
Ghillie Brouges Cross both laces in the usual manner. Twist the laces to form cable 3 - 4 inches in front of the ankle. Pull laces around back of ankle and then back to the front. Tie in a normal knot to outside of the ankle.
Prince Charlie It is incorrect to wear a belt with this outfit. A belt is worn with Argyll outfit.
